Description: | As darkness and winter comes, we reflect on loss, condolence and redemption with music that considers the end of life This concert is a meditation on the rituals of the end of life at the dark time of the year. The music and readings focus on the cycle of birth, growth, death and decay; and our hopes for redemption and salvation. We will sing music from Tomas Luis de Victoria Missa pro Defunctis, contrasting this polyphony with music from the rural Ameridan settlers' tradition. The intention is to match the raw power of the Victoria with music that espresses the sheer hard work of carving out a life in rural, pre-industrial society. This repertoire includes Pete Roberts KuyKendall I am weary, let me rest; Gail Randall The Call; Peggy Seeger Love call me home; Ralph Stanley Angel Band; Rani Arbo Crossing the bar; and traditional spirituals Road is Rugged; My Lord What a Morning. |
